Staff/Requirements

Erin Dykes

I’m pleased to say I have been working at St. Paul’s Preschool since 2008. I am thankful to have a position in such a nurturing and loving environment. In my 12 years here, I have spent 10 years as the head teacher in the Three Day Two’s classroom, as well as a school-wide floating assistant.  I previously taught Spanish and held the role of the assistant teacher in the Two Day Two’s classroom. Currently, I am in the role of Interim Director, and I’m very proud to be continuing the time-honored traditions of St. Paul’s Preschool. I am a married mother of three children. One is in elementary school, and two are in high school.  All three are graduates of St. Paul’s, and I am as well!

I was born and raised here in Louisville. I’m happy to both raise my family here, as well as help to continue to promote St. Paul’s strong tradition in Louisville. I earned my B.A. from Bellarmine University with a major in English and minors in French and Philosophy. Prior to working at St. Paul’s, I worked for my family’s manufacturing business in Accounting/ Logistics/Operations, and I have substituted in the JCPS system as well. I enjoy cooking and baking, gardening, camping, and above all, spending time with my family.

I truly enjoy working with the children in our program as they begin and then continue what is often their first social experience outside of their own homes. It is my privilege to earn the trust and friendship of the children and their families as we navigate each school year with new friends and new experiences.

My name is Veronica Kemper and I am excited to be starting my first year in the Three Day Two’s room.  My husband and I have four boys and have had a child (or two!) enrolled here for the past 6 years. My youngest is currently in a Three Year old class.  St. Paul’s has a special place in my heart and I’m so grateful to be joining this wonderful team of teachers.

In the past, I have worked at various child care centers and held positions as a nanny and an after school care coordinator.  After starting my family, I have stayed home for several years and I enjoyed watching my family grow. I feel my background is a perfect fit in joining the St. Paul’s Preschool staff.  I look forward to getting to know you and your children and enjoying this year together.

Pamella Harp

My name is Pamella Harp, and finding St. Paul’s Preschool has been my joy.  I love being the music teacher.  I have the BEST job at St. Paul’s.  I have the privilege of working with all of the children.  I get to see them smile, dance, be silly, learn, and grow.  This will be my 14th year as a preschool teacher and my 5th year at St. Paul’s.

When I am not singing and dancing with preschoolers, I am a mom to 4 children.  My oldest two are boys.  One is married and lives in LaGrange. The other is a firefighter serving in the Air Force. My youngest two are girls.  Currently they are in middle school.  The big difference in their ages has really kept me young at heart.

Currently I am enrolled and pursuing higher education.  I have become aware of how important time management is.  In order to fit everything in a day, I have to put the most important things first.  I love coming to work everyday.  It’s really not work since I love what I do.

Staff Requirements

It is the intent of St. Paul’s Preschool to select staff whom are well-qualified and eager to meet and uphold the mission of our school.   Interviews, personal and professional background checks, and criminal background investigations are part of our hiring process.

St. Paul’s will strive to hire those individuals who hold degrees in the fields of early childhood education, elementary education or certificates of child development.  However, some of our best teachers come to us without these credentials. Please know that our candidates must be committed to providing a loving, nurturing environment for young children. Head teachers in our Pre-K programs are required to hold degrees in education.

All staff are required to attend 15 hours of professional early child hood development training yearly.  Professional development includes structured teaching and learning experiences to support the acquisition of knowledge and skills and the implementation of knowledge and skills in the class environment.

Upon hiring, all staff must complete 6 hours of mandated Early Childhood Orientation.  This training consists of three modules:

  • Health, safety & sanitation
  • Recognizing and reporting child abuse and neglect
  • Recommended practices in early care and education

Staff are also required to take a 1.5 clock hour state mandatory Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma for Child Care Providers.  Annually, after the initial 7.5 hours of mandatory training, each staff member develops a Professional Development Plan to continue 15 hours of training each year.  The director is required to obtain 21 hours of training annually. In addition, St. Paul’s Preschool requires that all teaching staff members be certified in CPR and First Aid procedures.

Because the safety of your child is our foremost concern, all St. Paul’s Episcopal Church employees are required to participate in training to supplement and broaden the child abuse awareness and prevention education provided by the “Safeguarding God’s Children” program every 5 years.
